The history of Roulette
Roulette is a French word meaning "small wheel". It is believed that the noted French scientist and mathematician,
Blaise Pascal, invented the mechanism in 1657 while experimenting with perpetual motion devices.
The Roulette table layout we as see it today, first appeared in 1765 in Paris.
French emigrants imported this game into USA and the first American casino appeared in New Orleans in 1800.
Playing Roulette
Unfortunately, no betting systems exists that would remove the house advantage in Roulette. It is
still a game of chance, although there is nothing wrong with gambling a little as long as
you are aware of that it's what you are doing.
"You cannot beat a roulette table unless you steal money from it."

| Albert Einstein |
Einstein may be right when it comes to long-term expected results, however there are still some things
that you can do to slightly improve your odds of winning at Roulette. Not all bets at the Roulette table offer
the same odds, with some the house advantage is higher than with others. The Five-Number Bet is the one
offering the worst odds for the player, and should be avoided.
The odds are also strongly affected by which type of Roulette (American or European) you play. The American wheel
(this is the wheel that offers both 0, 00) gives the casino an advantage of 5.26%. The European Roulette wheel,
with its single 0, has a house edge of only 2.70%. In other words, if you would like to play Roulette, look
for the European single-zero version. Your odds will be further improved if the casino also offers
the favorable "en prison" rule. Under this rule if the player makes any even money bet (red, black, odd, even, 1-18, 19-36) and the
ball lands in zero the player either gets half the bet back or it becomes inprisoned. If an imprisoned bet
wins on the next spin it is released and the player gets it back, without winnings.
